Good morning, Powell. The statistics are sobering: distracted driving claimed 3,308 lives nationwide in 2022 and contributed to 76 crashes in our area already this year. The Union County Safe Communities Coalition is championing an "Eyes Forward" initiative to combat this growing problem. Their practical adviceβ€”designating a passenger as your texter, using Do Not Disturb features, or simply storing your phone out of reachβ€”could literally save lives on our local roads.

Meanwhile, green thumbs and aspiring arborists can still take advantage of the Union County tree sale happening now. The Soil & Water office at the Union County Ag Center has both evergreens (Colorado Blue Spruce, White Pine) and hardwoods (Red Maple, Redbud) available for purchase weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. With packs starting at just $15, this first-come, first-served opportunity is perfect for spring planting projects.
