🎭 Crafts and curtain calls

Powell • April 9, 2025

Good morning, Powell. Spring may be months away, but creativity is already blooming in Columbus with Studio 614's upcoming "Pick Your Project" workshop. For just $42, aspiring crafters can try their hand at everything from goat milk soap-making to macrame planters on April 8, with all supplies included. The BYOB format makes this a perfect opportunity to gather friends for an evening of refreshments and artistic exploration—even if everyone chooses different projects.

In more sobering news, the community mourns the loss of Worthington resident Abdimalik Hirad, 56, who died Monday in a head-on collision on State Route 750. Meanwhile, the curtain has risen on a thought-provoking production at Dublin's Abbey Theatre, where "Bobby and the Chimps" is drawing attention for its "spectacular acting" despite its lengthy runtime. The political drama about science and faith has audiences talking long after the final bow.

🎨 DIY workshop offers six creative projects for crafty Columbusites. Studio 614 will host a "Pick Your Project" workshop on April 8, 2025, where participants can choose from making goat milk soap, soy candles, embroidered canvas, mala bracelets, concrete coasters, or macrame planters. The $42 fee includes all supplies and step-by-step instructions, making it perfect for beginners with no experience necessary. The 2-hour BYOB event encourages participants to bring refreshments while they craft. Friends can select different projects but still sit together by noting this during registration.

🎭 Dublin theater stages political drama about science versus faith. "Bobby and the Chimps," a world premiere collaboration between Abbey Theatre of Dublin and Original Productions Theatre, follows a man running for school board in 2008 Pennsylvania. The review praises standout performances from Jeff White, Julia Cannell, and others who elevate sometimes stilted dialogue. While the play successfully sparks post-show discussions about its themes, the reviewer critiques its excessive length (2+ hours) and repetitive hammering of science-versus-faith dichotomy. Despite these flaws, the production showcases "spectacular acting" that makes the dialogue "snap and flow."
