Good morning, Portage County. Fish-scented "forbidden ravioli" is raining from the skies across Northeast Ohio, but don't adjust your reality settings just yet. These peculiar pasta-like packets are actually oral rabies vaccines being distributed to protect local wildlife populations. While raccoons might find them delicious, health officials recommend humans leave these special treats undisturbed as they're dropped by air and ground crews through mid-September.
On a more concerning note, a 73-year-old man recently lost $12,000 in an elaborate scam that began with a seemingly innocent conversation at Marc's in Solon. Meanwhile, fashion enthusiasts with faith connections can mark their calendars for September 17, when the Christian Women's Connection hosts their annual style showcase at Chagrin Valley Athletic Club, featuring the latest trends and a presentation on the healing power of laughter – something we could all use a little more of these days.

🕵️ Elderly man loses $12,000 in elaborate store-to-bank scam. A 73-year-old Warrensville Heights man was approached by a well-dressed stranger with an African accent while shopping at Marc's in Solon, Ohio. After a 20-minute conversation, the victim was convinced to meet the stranger's "attorney" at a Wendy's restaurant to discuss an investment opportunity. The scammers persuaded the victim to withdraw $12,000 from his bank and place it in his glove compartment as proof of investment interest. The victim later discovered the money missing from his car and the bag supposedly containing $30,000 in "investment returns" was empty.
🦝 Ohio drops "forbidden ravioli" to fight rabies in raccoons. The fish-scented baits containing oral rabies vaccines are being distributed across 11 counties, including Lake and Geauga, as part of an annual wildlife health initiative. The vaccine packets, which resemble small pasta squares, will be dropped by airplane, helicopter, and ground crews from August 17 through September 16. Although harmless to people and pets, officials recommend leaving the baits undisturbed so raccoons can consume them. By creating a population of vaccinated raccoons, health officials aim to prevent the spread of the potentially fatal virus.
