Portage County • August 14, 2025
Good morning, Portage County. The front porches of Akron's Highland Square are about to transform into stages this Saturday as PorchROKR 2025 brings nearly 140 Northeast Ohio musical acts to the neighborhood. From indie rock to hip-hop, the festival promises something for every musical taste, with performances running from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. across porches and local businesses. A curated Spotify playlist is already available for those wanting to plan their musical journey through the neighborhood.
Meanwhile, Solon residents now have a new drive-thru option that isn't serving up coffee or fast food. The Botanist cannabis dispensary opened its doors on Aurora Road, becoming the city's first such establishment following voter approval last year. In Beachwood, the Jewish Federation is preparing for its Super Sunday Kickoff on September 7, an event that raised over $2.6 million last year to support Jewish communities both locally and globally.

🌿 Solon welcomes its first cannabis dispensary with drive-thru service. The Botanist opened on July 28 at 33113 Aurora Road, operating daily from 10am to 8pm for both medical patients and adults over 21. Mayor Eddy Kraus acknowledged mixed community reactions but emphasized it's a legal business approved by state and city voters in 2023. A second dispensary, Verilife, plans to open soon at a different Aurora Road location. Kraus hopes The Botanist will particularly benefit residents using marijuana for medical purposes.
🕍 Cleveland's Jewish Federation kicks off 2026 fundraising campaign September 7. The Super Sunday Kickoff event will launch the annual Campaign for Jewish Needs, bringing together hundreds of community members at the Federation's Beachwood building. The 2026 campaign, which supports both local and global Jewish communities, will conclude in December 2025.
