📜 Family secrets unveiled

Portage County • March 20, 2025

Good morning, Portage County. Did you know your family history might be hiding in plain sight? This April, genealogy enthusiasts have a golden opportunity to discover ancestral treasures when expert Roslyn Torella reveals the secrets buried within passenger lists at the Portage County Historical Society. The free program promises to unlock family mysteries that have perhaps remained hidden for generations—perfect timing as spring inspires fresh starts and rediscoveries.

Meanwhile, as tornado season approaches, Twinsburg residents noted that the city oped out of yesterday's statewide drill while encouraging multiple alert methods beyond outdoor sirens. On a more heartwarming note, Akron Children's Hospital is tackling childhood hunger head-on with their new "Food Farmacy" in Boardman, where vulnerable families will receive prescribed nutritional support. The initiative represents healthcare evolving beyond traditional boundaries to address the fundamental connection between proper nutrition and healing.

🌪️ Twinsburg opted out of statewide tornado drill yesterday. The city wants residents to understand its Outdoor Warning Siren System, which consisted of nine strategically placed sirens designed primarily for outdoor alerts. Officials emphasized these sirens shouldn't be relied upon indoors or in noisy areas, as weather conditions can prevent them from being heard. Twinsburg activates sirens when the National Weather Service issues tornado warnings, when local officials report a tornado, or during dangerous situations requiring immediate shelter. Residents are encouraged to sign up for local alerts through Alert Sense and have multiple ways to receive severe weather information.
