Good morning, Pike County. In a stark reminder of the opioid crisis affecting communities nationwide, two adults were arrested near Yoctangee Park after allegedly endangering a child while under the influence of drugs. The incident, which resulted in child endangerment charges and the temporary placement of the child with relatives, highlights ongoing substance abuse challenges facing local families.

Meanwhile, education leaders at Waverly City Schools are navigating a complex funding landscape as Ohio's Fair School Funding Plan remains only partially implemented. Despite these fiscal hurdles, the district has successfully maintained programs without resorting to pay-to-play athletics or staff cuts. In other news, Chillicothe police are investigating a disturbing late-night incident where an intoxicated man allegedly attempted to use his vehicle as a weapon against IHOP employees, narrowly missing them as they took shelter behind a pillar.

📚 Ohio schools face funding rollercoaster, delaying critical planning. Waverly City Schools is navigating the partially implemented Fair School Funding Plan, which calculates costs based on student needs but is only 66% implemented due to state budget constraints. Despite enrollment climbing toward 1,800 students, administrators must balance increased state revenue with greater responsibilities for a more diverse student population. The district has successfully avoided implementing athletic pay-to-play policies or cutting positions, which they credit to community advocacy for public education. Administrators are working proactively on long-term planning to maintain educational quality and fiscal stability.
