Pike County • October 1, 2025
Good morning, Pike County. The ancient heartbeat of Ohio's indigenous past is about to echo through our community this October. OU-Chillicothe is hosting two extraordinary archaeological events featuring experts Wesley Clarke and Dr. Tim Everhart, who will unveil fresh discoveries about the Hopewell Culture that once thrived on the very ground we now call home. These presentations offer a rare window into our region's rich heritage—from the mysterious Marietta Earthworks to groundbreaking research conducted alongside tribal representatives.
In the present day, Pike County's own Keith Eric Pitts has joined an elite circle as just the 24th recipient of the prestigious Marvin J. Huston General's Award. The humble Army veteran and Community Action Committee leader deflected personal praise, attributing the honor to "a thousand hands" working together. Meanwhile, Chillicothe police had their work cut out for them, tackling multiple assaults, vandalism, and burglaries in a whirlwind 24-hour crime spree that kept officers racing across the city.
