Good morning, Pike County. The monarch butterfly's annual journey to Mexico stands as one of nature's most remarkable migrations, and now local residents have a chance to contribute to groundbreaking research tracking these delicate travelers. Hopewell Culture National Historical Park's September 7th tagging event at Hopeton Earthworks offers a rare hands-on opportunity to participate in the nationwide Monarch Watch program—combining outdoor adventure with meaningful citizen science that could help protect these iconic orange-winged creatures.

Meanwhile, as Chillicothe prepares for an important August 25th public hearing on the proposed Green-Chillicothe Joint Economic Development District, the community also comes together in grief. Waverly High School mourns the tragic loss of senior Drezden Bolin-Hitchens, a promising HVAC student and Tigers football player whose passing in a vehicle collision has prompted an outpouring of tributes and support, reminding us how deeply intertwined our local lives truly are.
