Pike County • May 19, 2025
Good morning, Pike County. The clock is ticking for 800 skilled workers affected by the Pixelle paper mill closure, but a lifeline emerges in the form of the 2025 Ross County Employment Expo. Set for June 25th at OU-Chillicothe, this event represents our community's remarkable ability to rally around neighbors in crisis, connecting experienced manufacturing talent with employers eager to keep these valuable skills within our region rather than watching families relocate elsewhere.
Meanwhile, milestone moments are unfolding across our educational landscape. Zane Trace High School's gymnasium recently erupted in celebration as the Class of 2025 marked their transition with creatively decorated caps and inspirational addresses from six valedictorians. And at Ohio University Chillicothe, a leadership transition approaches with Mike Lafreniere, a 30-year OHIO faculty veteran, stepping into the interim dean role this July. These educational chapters—both endings and beginnings—showcase the continuous renewal that keeps our community vibrant.
