Good morning, Pike County. Sometimes the most powerful community movements begin with a simple act of support. Life Point Church's new Parents of Addicted Loved Ones group represents that essential lifeline for families navigating the turbulent waters of addiction. These Tuesday evening sessions offer more than just education—they provide a judgment-free space where parents can find both practical tools and emotional understanding from others walking similar paths.
Meanwhile, fresh perspectives are breathing new life into our region. DJ Geek Techneek (known off-stage as Liz Pratt) exemplifies how newcomers fall in love with our rolling hills and choose to put down roots rather than simply passing through. And at Yoctangee Park, nearly 80 children recently experienced the joy of fishing alongside local firefighters—creating moments where emergency responders could be seen not amidst crisis, but through the delighted eyes of children landing their first catch.

🙏 Parents find hope in new addiction support group. Life Point Church in Scioto County has launched a Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL) meeting to support those with adult children battling addiction. The free weekly sessions provide education, peer support, and tools to develop healthy boundaries with addicted loved ones. Led by trained facilitators with personal experience like Lisa Keyser, the meetings cover topics from enabling to healthy helping while incorporating both faith and addiction science. Meetings are held Tuesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. at Life Point Church and are open to parents, spouses, grandparents, siblings, and close friends over 18.
🎧 DJ Geek Techneek brings fresh energy to Scioto County cleanup efforts. Liz Pratt, known by her DJ name, represents the positive influence of newcomers who discover and fall in love with the area's potential. Like many who drift into Scioto County for work or other reasons, she chose to plant roots rather than continue floating along. Her inspiration comes from the rolling Appalachian foothills, Portsmouth's downtown revitalization, and the growing nonprofit community. Pratt exemplifies how fresh perspectives can contribute meaningfully to local community development.
🎣 Firefighters and kids create lasting memories through fishing adventure. Nearly 80 youth participated in the "Fish with a Firefighter" event at Yoctangee Park, where local firefighters provided fishing instruction and equipment. Children excitedly caught fish while also getting to explore fire trucks, with many receiving free rods and reels to take home. The event allowed community members to see firefighters in a different light outside of emergency situations. For the firefighters, it built camaraderie among colleagues while giving them the joy of seeing children smile rather than during crisis situations.
