🚨 Trapped victims await helicopter rescue after semi-truck crashes on US-23. A serious collision between a semi-truck and car near Delano Road in Ross County has left two people trapped inside their vehicle. Emergency crews rushed to the scene following the 11:45 a.m. accident, with two medical helicopters dispatched for the injured victims. Both directions of US-23 are currently closed as first responders work to free the trapped individuals and clear the scene. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area while rescue operations continue.

🏢 Second violent attack rocks Ohio prison within two months. A behavioral health clinician at Ross County Correctional Institution was assaulted by an inmate Thursday, suffering minor injuries. The incident follows the Christmas Day murder of Officer Andrew Lansing by inmate Rashawn Cannon at the same facility. Lansing's death prompted Governor DeWine to order flags lowered and sparked social media rumors of inmate mistreatment. State investigators found no evidence of abuse after conducting wellness checks on inmates mentioned in social media posts.

🎁 Local groups team up to give pajamas and books to children. Christian Life Academy students and parents collected new pajamas while Jackson County WIC provided books for children up to age 12. Jackson Area Ministries will distribute these comfort items to local kids in need through their community outreach programs. The partnership brings together three organizations serving Jackson County, Ohio: a private school, a women and children's health program, and a ministry supporting those affected by poverty and disasters. The collaborative effort earned special recognition for organizers who helped bring comfort to vulnerable children in the community.

Odette Marie Husband

Odette Marie Husband, 101, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on December 27, 1923, in Varages, France, she met her husband David during World War II while studying nursing. The couple raised ten children in Plymouth, Indiana, where Odette was a dedicated mother, talented seamstress, certified pilot, and active community member, serving on the Plymouth School and Parks Boards. Known for her love of gardening and local improv, she also cherished her family above all. She is survived by six children, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, and was preceded in death by her husband and several family members.

Anthony Frances Rizzo

Anthony Frances Rizzo, 82, of Waverly, Ohio, passed away on February 24, 2025. Born on April 13, 1942, in Jamestown, New York, he was the son of Santo J. Rizzo and Frances (Privatera) Rizzo. He is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Rizzo, and their two sons, Michael and Daniel, along with four grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are handled by Boyer Cremation Services.

Tamara Deane Montgomery

Tamara Deane Montgomery, 55, of Waverly, Ohio, passed away at home on February 24, 2025. Born on July 4, 1969, to Hatler and Juanita Maynard, she is survived by her husband Brad, two children, two grandchildren, and four sisters. Preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Linda Mays, Tamara's funeral will be held on March 1, 2025, at Boyer Funeral Home. The family requests donations to Adena Hospice in her memory instead of flowers. They extend gratitude to friends and the hospice staff for their support and care.

Isaac Joseph Atencio

Issac Joseph Atencio, 53, of Piketon, Ohio, passed away on February 15, 2025, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Born on August 2, 1971, in Colorado Springs, he is survived by his two sons, a sister, a brother, a goddaughter, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Isaac was a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross and served as a volunteer firefighter in Piketon. Funeral services will take place on February 28, 2025, at Howe Wheeler Boyer Funeral Home, followed by burial at Bailey Chapel Cemetery.

Harold Anderson

Harold Cecil Anderson, 84, passed away on February 23, 2025, in Byingtown Community, Ohio, where he was born on November 24, 1940. Known as a caring father and devoted husband, he was affectionately called "Mr. Fix-It" and worked in various roles including mechanic, laborer, and propane delivery. He had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying hunting and family gatherings in nature. Harold is survived by his wife Mary, children Carlos, Debbie, and Donna, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom cherished his warmth and wisdom. Funeral services are scheduled for February 27, 2025, at Latham Church of God, followed by burial at Washburn Cemetery.
