🎶 Legacy Lives On

Pike County • February 26, 2025

Good morning, Pike County. They say a life well-lived echoes far beyond its years, and Mary Ann Scurlock's legacy proves just that. From leading the Wellston High marching band to touching hearts through her singing ministry, she painted her world with vibrant strokes of creativity and kindness until her final days at 56. Her voice may have gone quiet, but the melody of her impact plays on.

Speaking of remarkable legacies, our region's ancient earthworks are writing their own modern success story. Since earning UNESCO World Heritage status, Hopewell Culture National Historical Park has seen visitor numbers soar by an impressive 43%. With nine hotels now dotting Chillicothe's landscape and tourists flocking from as far as Savannah, it seems our ancestors' architectural marvels are once again putting Pike County on the map.
