Good morning, Pickaway County. The Buckeye State's landscape of tranquility and tension comes into focus this week as a new hiking destination opens in Ross County. The Herron-Downs Fen offers 3.5 miles of natural wonder, where monarch butterflies feast on wildflowers and majestic sycamores stand sentinel over wetlands teeming with life. This serene addition joins Chillicothe's impressive collection of outdoor escapes, providing a peaceful counterpoint to the week's more sobering headlines.

On a more serious note, Columbus authorities continue investigating after a man tragically jumped from the Rich Street Bridge into the Scioto River Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, at the Statehouse, approximately 100 protesters rallied against proposed legislation that would restrict property ownership for immigrants from certain countries, with critics arguing the bills may violate constitutional protections. The measures could potentially impact international students and faculty at Ohio State University.

🏠 Ohio protesters rally against bills targeting immigrant landowners. About 100 people gathered at the Ohio Statehouse to oppose House Bill 1 and Senate Bill 88, which would restrict property ownership for immigrants from countries like China and Russia. The legislation would prevent non-citizens from these "foreign adversary" countries from owning land near military installations or "critical infrastructure," potentially affecting most of the state. Critics argue the bills are unconstitutional discrimination based on national origin, with one law professor noting they would likely fail equal protection challenges. The Asian American Coalition of Ohio warns the legislation could also impact international students and faculty at Ohio State University.
