Pickaway County • March 27, 2025
Good morning, Pickaway County. A changing of the guard is underway at our Park District as Craig Sanders steps into the executive director role, bringing fresh leadership after Arista Hartzler's six-year tenure. Sanders won't have much time for settling in with major projects already in motion, including the county's first-ever nature center and those much-needed restrooms at Canal Park that visitors have been anticipating.
The artistic talents of our next generation are currently on full display in downtown Circleville, where more than 200 student masterpieces are competing for community votes and school bragging rights at the ArtsaRound Gallery. While creativity flourishes indoors, drama unfolded on the Scioto River Thursday when one man's attempt to flee from police ended with a rescue operation from a sandbar—proving once again that when it comes to evading law enforcement, water escapes rarely go with the flow.

🌳 Pickaway County Park District welcomes new leader after director's departure. Craig Sanders has been appointed as the new Executive Director, replacing Arista Hartzler who resigned to focus on her family after six years of service. Sanders brings seven years of experience from the O.O. McIntyre Park District in Gallia County and is an Ohio Christian University graduate. He plans to spend his first months getting reacquainted with the area while overseeing important projects, including a restroom installation at Canal Park and developing the county's first nature center. The Park District's Board of Commissioners is optimistic about continued growth under Sanders' leadership.
🎨 Young artists showcase 200+ pieces in Pickaway County competition. The 2025 Best of Pickaway High School Art Show & Competition runs throughout April at the ArtsaRound Gallery in downtown Circleville. Artwork from students at Logan Elm, Westfall, Circleville, Teays Valley, and New Hope Christian Academy will be displayed for community viewing and voting. Visitors can cast votes in the People's Choice contest to help their favorite school win the Best of Pickaway County High Schools Trophy. Proceeds support ArtsaRound's mission to promote arts throughout the community.
