Pickaway County • March 21, 2025
Good morning, Pickaway County. March 19th delivered a perfect storm of activity for Circleville police, who tackled everything from disturbances and drunk driving calls to robbery investigations in a single whirlwind day. The flurry of incidents across town offered a snapshot of the challenges our local officers face daily, responding to multiple serious situations while still managing routine patrols and fire-related calls.
Meanwhile, calculator theft has surprisingly become a mathematical problem with a human solution. Eric Benford's recent case demonstrates our justice system's occasional preference for rehabilitation over incarceration, as his planned calculator resale scheme earned him three years of community control instead of jail time. And if you're planning your spring commutes, take note: Columbia Gas line replacements and the city's ambitious paving schedule will transform your usual routes in the coming months, with detours and lane closures affecting neighborhoods across Circleville.

🚨 Circleville man steals calculators, gets second chance instead of jail. Eric Benford pled guilty to theft and failure to appear, receiving concurrent sentences of 12 and 18 months that were stayed in favor of three years community control. The charges stemmed from a January 2024 Walmart theft where Benford and accomplice Miranda Setree stole calculators, food items, and a gift set before fleeing in a U-Haul. Police quickly apprehended the pair on US 23 in Chillicothe, recovering all stolen items while Benford allegedly planned to sell the calculators for profit.
🚓 Circleville police tackle crime wave across the city in one day. Law enforcement responded to multiple serious incidents on March 19, 2025, including arrests following disturbances on Eva Drive and Lynwood Avenue. The busy day included reports of fraud, a breaking and entering call, and a robbery on East Main Street that remains under investigation. Officers also pursued several drunk driving reports throughout the evening and handled two fire-related calls on Logan Street that were cleared without incident. The Circleville Police Department continues investigating these cases while encouraging residents with information to contact authorities.
🛣️ Circleville's 2025 roadwork will disrupt traffic across multiple neighborhoods. Columbia Gas will begin replacing lines on North Court Street in January, creating lane closures through early spring. The city's extensive paving projects include repairs on over a dozen streets, with Beverly, Montclair, and Guilford scheduled for completion in spring. Storm sewer repairs are already underway near Sheetz on South Court Street, expected to continue through March. Residents should also prepare for potential railroad crossing closures at South Court and South Scioto streets in late March, with detours to be clearly marked.
