🛒 Big Lots comeback

Pickaway County • February 7, 2025

Good morning, Pickaway County. In the retail world's version of a plot twist worthy of M. Night Shyamalan, Big Lots is staging an unexpected comeback story. While 200 stores across America get a second chance at life through a creative rescue plan, our local outlets in Grove City and Columbus have made the survival cut - proving that sometimes the best deals are on the businesses themselves.

Meanwhile, Pickaway County's having its own dramatic moments that feel straight out of an action movie. An overturned stolen Pontiac Vibe left deputies with more questions than answers after discovering a cache of weapons and cash, while Circleville police tackled 28 incidents in a single day. Just another episode in our county's never-dull reality series, though we'd prefer fewer plot twists involving stolen cars.

🏪 Big Lots fights bankruptcy, keeps 200 stores alive across America. The Columbus-based retailer's survival plan includes transferring these locations to North Carolina-based Variety Wholesalers Inc, maintaining presence across 14 states. Among the survivors are 24 Ohio stores, including locations in Grove City and Columbus, while 23 other Ohio stores face closure. The company, which started 2024 with 1,392 locations, now operates 872 stores nationwide as it navigates through bankruptcy proceedings that began in September 2024. The restructuring comes after a failed deal with Nexus Capital Management and ongoing challenges from inflation and high interest rates.
