Pickaway County • January 21, 2025
Good morning, Pickaway County. In a plot twist that could rival any Hollywood drama, our local Ohio Power Siting Board just delivered a firm "no" to Circleville Solar's request for a project rehearing, while simultaneously giving the green light to several other energy projects across the state. It's a reminder that even in our corner of Ohio, we're part of bigger conversations about energy and development.
Meanwhile, the halls of Circleville High School are buzzing with pride as three hometown heroes prepare to take their rightful place in the school's Hall of Fame. And speaking of dramatic turns, we had quite the scene at the highway patrol post this weekend - though thankfully, what initially seemed like a serious situation turned out to be nothing more than an unfortunate false alarm. Just another eventful week in Pickaway County.

In the same session, the board gave the green light to modify Wood County's Juliet Solar project, allowing changes to its substation and building locations. The board also approved several other significant energy projects, including AEP transmission lines in Jackson and Ross counties and Duke Energy's Butler County pipeline. A major wind farm project in Erie and Huron counties, the Emerson Creek Wind Farm, also received the board's blessing.
🏆 Three hometown sports legends join Circleville High School's Hall of Fame. Bass dominated in track and soccer, setting five school records and winning state championships in multiple events. Camp excelled as a three-sport athlete, breaking football passing records and earning All-Ohio honors in both football and basketball. Moats made her mark in softball and soccer, setting multiple school records before continuing her stellar career at Walsh University.
🚨 Man sparks panic with fake hostage report at Ohio highway patrol post. A Columbus resident, Jeffrey Corby, was arrested Saturday after falsely claiming someone was being held at gunpoint in a vehicle at the Circleville patrol post parking lot. The incident triggered a large law enforcement response, but investigators quickly determined there was no actual hostage situation. The vehicle in question belonged to Corby himself, who was subsequently charged with inducing panic and taken to Pickaway County jail. Officials confirmed there was never any danger to the public, and U.S.-23 has since reopened.
