Good morning, Muskingum County. The skies above the fairgrounds came alive this week as master falconer Jonathan Wood and his magnificent "Extreme Raptors" soared into the hearts of attendees. The 69-year-old's collection of hawks, falcons, eagles, and owls demonstrated their breathtaking natural abilities in dramatic flying demonstrations that brought spectators face-to-face with these powerful predators. Meanwhile, the fairgrounds' swine arena bustled with activity as young farmers showcased their prized hogs in the traditional Junior Fair market competition.

Just across the county line, Guernsey County is preparing for its own community celebrations, including the Youth Wings'n Wheels event featuring local service departments in the Gladiator Challenge Games. History buffs should mark August 31 on their calendars for a special commemoration marking the 100th anniversary of the USS Shenandoah crash, complete with storytellers, displays, and appearances by descendants of crew members. Plan your routes carefully, though – several road closures are scheduled throughout the area for culvert repairs.
