Muskingum County • August 6, 2025
Good morning, Muskingum County. The path from classroom to career just got a little shorter for local students in the innovative HEART program at OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center. While juniors and seniors shadow healthcare professionals across various departments, participants like Kendyl Trott are discovering that these experiences can quickly transform into real employment opportunities—a win-win for both career-seeking students and a hospital building its local talent pipeline.
In the midst of opportunity, our community also faces moments of loss. A dangerous curve on Natural Resources Road 1 in nearby Guernsey County claimed the life of Newcomertown's Jonathon Kuczmarski in an early morning crash. Meanwhile, tomato enthusiasts can find solace in simple pleasures at Granville Farmers Market's 10th annual Tomato Taste-Off this Friday, where locally grown varieties will compete for the community's favor amid family-friendly activities at Raccoon Valley Park.

🏥 High school students gain real healthcare experience through innovative program. The HEART program at OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center allows juniors and seniors to shadow professionals across various healthcare departments beyond just doctors and nurses. Students like Kendyl Trott have turned their experience into job opportunities, with Trott now working as a patient support assistant while pursuing radiology studies. The program has already hired two participants and is expanding to include fall sessions for juniors and spring sessions for job-seeking seniors. This partnership benefits both students exploring careers and the hospital building its pipeline of local talent.
