Muskingum County • July 16, 2025
Good morning, Muskingum County. A life of service came to a close last weekend as Roger Reischman, a dedicated lineman of 40 years and Army veteran, passed away at 79. The Barnesville resident leaves behind not just his wife of 53 years and family, but a legacy of commitment to both his country and community—a quiet hero whose funeral services will be held this week as friends and neighbors gather to honor his memory.
Meanwhile, transportation safety takes center stage across our region with multiple traffic incidents reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol throughout Washington County. The news arrives as construction finally begins on a life-saving upgrade to the notorious U.S. 33 and Pickerington Road intersection in Fairfield County. The dangerous crossing, which claimed another life earlier this year, will be transformed into an overpass interchange by 2028—though major construction won't be visible until next summer.

🚗 Highway chaos unfolds in multiple Ohio traffic incidents. The Ohio State Highway Patrol released reports detailing several accidents across Washington County, including a commercial truck rollover on State Route 555 and multiple collisions due to improper driving. An 80-year-old driver was charged after backing into another vehicle, while another incident involved a hit-and-run when an unknown log truck struck a utility line. Weather conditions played a role in at least one accident, where a driver with low tire tread overturned in a ditch during inclement weather.
🚧 Deadly intersection finally getting life-saving upgrade. The U.S. 33 and Pickerington Road intersection in Fairfield County, Ohio—deemed the most dangerous in the county—will be transformed into an overpass interchange. Construction began Monday on the project that aims to eliminate dangerous stop-and-go accidents that have claimed multiple lives, including a 33-year-old driver earlier this year. When completed in 2028, the new design will mirror the safer Carroll and Hill Diley road interchanges, featuring proper exit and entrance ramps with longer merging lanes. Major construction work won't be visible until next summer.
