Good morning, Muskingum County. A forgotten piece of American design history is getting a second life as Gay Fad Studios returns to Lancaster with its vintage mid-century modern glassware. Founded in 1939 by pioneering businesswoman Fran Taylor, the company's revolutionary designs are being faithfully reproduced by couple Dave and Jason Annecy using the exact same techniques and materials that made the original pieces collector's items. Their annual "Bottoms Up" event celebrates this colorful slice of American craftsmanship that once employed 25 female designers.

Meanwhile, Fairfield County saw some unexpected railroad drama Monday when four train cars derailed near Sugar Grove Park, spilling rock and gravel but thankfully no hazardous materials. On a more inclusive note, Licking County is rolling out Momentum Refresh—a fully accessible portable restroom with universal changing tables—for Independence Day celebrations across three cities, ensuring everyone can comfortably enjoy the fireworks without accessibility concerns.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

Brewing Locally Image

🥃 Forgotten glassware icon from Lancaster returns with vintage flair. Gay Fad Studios, a revolutionary mid-century modern glassware company founded by Fran Taylor in 1939, has been revived by couple Dave and Jason Annecy. The original company pioneered innovative glass-decorating techniques and employed 25 female designers before closing in 1962 after a copyright dispute. The Annecys discovered Fran Taylor's lost 1963 designs and now reproduce them using the exact same techniques and materials in their Lancaster shop. Their annual "Bottoms Up" event celebrates mid-century barware while preserving an important piece of American design history.
