His talk will explore how various African American musical genres shaped Guyanese cultural life throughout the 20th century. Dr. Cambridge, who received Guyana's Golden Arrow of Achievement award, currently chairs the History and Research Committee at Mount Zion Black Cultural Center. The free event, including a light lunch, will take place from 1-3pm at the center in Chesterhill.
🏠 Ohio nonprofit secures $2 million to transform homeless shelter. Hocking Athens Perry Community Action (HAPCAP) is one of four organizations receiving state funding through the HOME American Rescue Plan Non-Congregate Shelter program. The money will renovate existing structures and add community spaces, laundry facilities, playground equipment, and security lighting to the Sunset Shelter Project. These improvements aim to provide dignified, private living environments rather than traditional congregate shelters.
