Muskingum County • May 12, 2025
Good morning, Muskingum County. The ground beneath our feet isn't always as stable as we might think. A 2.9 magnitude earthquake rattled Pleasant City late Thursday, marking the fourth tremor in the region in recent months. While Ohio has experienced over 300 earthquakes since 1776 without a single fatality, the event sent light shaking through communities from Cambridge to Painesville, reminding us of nature's unpredictable power.
Meanwhile, our community calendar is filling up with opportunities to connect. Blood drives in Cambridge and Byesville offer chances to save lives, while the Pennyroyal Opera House celebrates a milestone 30th anniversary with bluegrass performances before their summer hiatus. In Zanesville, middle school students are tackling tough topics through powerful essays, with Sebastian Valencia earning the honor of representing our district at a national event in Washington, D.C. Local history comes alive as students tour the Nelson T. Gant House, once home to a former slave who became our county's wealthiest resident.
