🎟️ Lucky scratch

Muskingum County • March 27, 2025

Good morning, Muskingum County. Talk about turning a quick errand into a life-changing moment! A Coshocton man recently transformed a $20 scratch-off ticket into a whopping $150,000 jackpot, proving that sometimes the most ordinary days hold extraordinary surprises. While he's still contemplating how to spend his $108,000 after taxes, his unexpected windfall reminds us that fortune can strike when we least expect it.

Meanwhile, Ridgewood Local Schools is defying expectations in a different way, earning "Outlier" status for exceptional math and science performance that outshines even wealthy districts. Their success story offers valuable lessons about the power of structured teaching approaches and strong student connections. For those looking to make a difference locally, Friday's PAWS fundraiser at The Clover Key presents the perfect opportunity to enjoy live music and raffles while supporting affordable spay and neuter services for our community's pets.

💰 Lucky errand run turns into $150,000 jackpot for Coshocton man. While running errands, he stopped at Legacy Lanes and purchased a $20 Monopoly Bonus Spectacular 100X scratch-off ticket. Initially thinking he'd won $20,000 after revealing a hotel symbol, he was shocked when scanning revealed his true prize: $150,000. After taxes, he'll take home approximately $108,000, though he hasn't yet decided how to spend his windfall. The Ohio Lottery, which has contributed over $33 billion to education since 1974, still has three top prizes remaining in the Monopoly game.

🧮 Tiny rural school outperforms wealthy districts in math and science. Ridgewood Local Schools has been recognized as an "Outlier" by Ohio's Department of Education and Workforce for exceptional performance on state assessments. The district's success is attributed to dedicated teachers, strong student connections, and a structured instructional framework that emphasizes daily reading, writing, and speaking in every classroom. Key strategies include the "first four" lesson opener, "gradual release of responsibility" model, and "final four" closure activities. State officials now plan to study Ridgewood's approach to inform statewide efforts to enhance math and science education.
