🩰 Art in motion

Montgomery County • April 10, 2025

Good morning, Montgomery County. The intersection of art and movement takes center stage in downtown Dayton, where Susan Byrnes' floating tulle petticoats and cast iron cow bones have transformed into a collaborative dance experience. This captivating fusion at the Contemporary Dayton Gallery bridges the gap between visual art and performance, creating a powerful exploration of freedom and constraint that resonates across generations.

Meanwhile, meaningful conversations are happening across our community, from BATU's welcoming spaces for dialogue on Black experiences to the economic ripple effects of major defense contracts. Raytheon and Northrop Grumman are bringing $141 million in military manufacturing work to Dayton and Middletown facilities, strengthening our region's role in national defense while providing local employment opportunities through 2029. These developments remind us how Montgomery County continues to be a place where creativity, conversation, and commerce thrive side by side.

🎭 Art and dance collide in downtown Dayton's captivating new exhibition. "Lightness and Weight" at the Contemporary Dayton Gallery features artist Susan Byrnes' installation of tulle petticoats suspended like clouds above cast iron cow bones. The exhibition gained a dynamic element when choreographer Nicola Resto created a dance piece titled "Remains," performed by Katie Moorhead who dances with a cowbell among the artwork. This collaborative performance explores tensions between freedom and constraint, connecting to histories of women and artists across generations.
