Good morning, Meigs County. Mark your calendars for a riverside tradition as the historic Pomeroy Sternwheel Regatta returns September 18-21, bringing four days of Ohio River festivities. From Thursday's opening fire truck parade to Sunday's thrilling sternwheel races, the event packs in everything from frog jumping championships with cash prizes to a mouth-watering chili cook-off—a perfect celebration of our region's deep connection to the river that defines us.

In other local happenings, a four-legged fugitive had Athens County deputies scrambling as an unidentified donkey caused roadway chaos before disappearing into the countryside. Meanwhile, Parkersburg-based United Bankshares is celebrating its strongest quarter in company history, with record earnings of $120.7 million and continued expansion that now includes 240 offices across eight states. Their success story stands as a bright spot in our regional economy worth noting.
