Today, French flags flutter along Front Street commemorating this historic visit, with special bicentennial events planned for Friday. This colorful celebration of French-American friendship offers a welcome brightness amid more sobering local news.
Unfortunately, our community faces two immediate concerns requiring vigilance. A fatal motorcycle collision on Ohio 691 claimed the life of 65-year-old Nelsonville resident Clem Mace on Friday afternoon, with the incident still under investigation. Meanwhile, Marietta residents—particularly in the Harmar area—should exercise extreme caution following reports of two potentially dangerous dogs roaming the neighborhood. Officials strongly advise against approaching the animals and urge anyone spotting them to contact dispatch immediately at 740-376-2007.
