Good morning, Meigs County. The power of giving back shines brightly in our community this week. Ohio University alum Larry Katz has come full circle from aspiring sportscaster to the Scripps College's largest individual donor, proving that success isn't always found on the path we initially envision. His induction into the Ohio Communication Hall of Fame celebrates not just personal achievement, but a commitment to lifting up the next generation of broadcasters through substantial scholarship funds.
Life-saving technology is now within reach at two local community centers thanks to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center's donation of AEDs valued at over $3,400. Meanwhile, St. Patrick's Anglican Church on Market Street is picking up the pieces after Tuesday's fierce storm shattered a historic stained glass window. With more unsettled weather in the forecast, this weekend might be perfect for staying safe indoors – perhaps reflecting on how our community continues to support each other through both celebration and recovery.

🎓 Ohio alum transforms from sportscaster to college's biggest donor. Larry Katz, a 1977 radio and television graduate who once aspired to be a sports broadcaster, has been inducted into the Scripps College Ohio Communication Hall of Fame. Despite his career taking an unexpected turn into the restaurant business in New Orleans, Katz never forgot his WOUB Public Media roots. His generous contributions established both a family scholarship for WOUB students and the WOUB Sports Student Leadership and Production Fund, making him the largest individual donor to the college. "I am who I am because of the people at this station and the work I did here," Katz said during his April induction ceremony.
❤️ Life-saving devices donated to community centers by local hospital. WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center gifted automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to the Progress Ridge Community Building and Waverly Activity Center. The Philips HeartStart OnSite devices, valued at $1,705 each, can help restore normal heartbeat during cardiac emergencies. Hospital staff will also provide training to ensure proper usage of the equipment. This donation reflects Camden Clark's commitment to supporting public safety beyond hospital walls, as early AED use combined with CPR significantly increases survival rates.
🌪️ Historic church window shatters as storm wreaks havoc in Parkersburg. Tuesday evening's powerful storm blew a stained glass window into St. Patrick's Anglican Church on Market Street, forcing Bailey General Contracting crews to board up the space Wednesday. Despite the dramatic damage at the church, officials in Wood and Washington counties reported no other significant storm impacts in the area. The National Weather Service forecasts more unsettled weather ahead, with thunderstorms likely through the weekend and rain possibly continuing into Sunday.
