Good morning, Meigs County. Did you know that before becoming a state park, Blennerhassett Island once hosted an amusement park complete with rides and a baseball diamond? This historic Ohio River gem has witnessed thousands of years of human activity, from Native American trading post to frontier farm, long before the famous family's brief eight-year stay. Today, visitors can step back in time via sternwheeler and horse-drawn wagon rides to experience its rich, layered history.

The region is humming with activity and progress on multiple fronts. My Morning Jacket delivered what fans called an "unbelievable" two-hour musical journey at Ohio University, drawing superfans from across the Midwest. Meanwhile, rural connectivity takes a major leap forward with a $352,000 grant bringing high-speed broadband to over 200 underserved homes in the Long Bottom area and along Ohio 681—transforming digital access for residents who've been waiting in the slow lane far too long.

🏝️ Historic island's story stretches far beyond the Blennerhassett name. The Ohio River island, now a popular state park, has hosted human activity for thousands of years before the famous family's brief eight-year residence. Originally a cluster of smaller islands that merged around 1859, it has served many purposes—from Native American trading post to frontier farm to early 20th century amusement park with rides and a baseball diamond. After being wiped clean by the great flood of 1913, it continued as farmland until becoming a West Virginia state park in 1978, where visitors today can experience 19th-century life via sternwheeler access and horse-drawn wagon rides.

The indie rock band performed at Ohio University's Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, drawing superfans who traveled from across the Midwest. Preceded by Australian singer-songwriter Grace Cummings, the band showcased tracks from their new album "is" alongside fan favorites like "Off the Record" and "One Big Holiday." Keyboardist Bo Koster enjoyed a homecoming to his alma mater, while frontman Jim James captivated the audience with his dual persona as both hardcore guitarist and charismatic vocalist. Longtime fans described the performance as "unbelievable" and "special," cementing My Morning Jacket's reputation as "the best live band of this generation."

🥎 Softball Scoreboard

Eastern Eagles soared over Portsmouth Trojans in a lopsided 18-5 softball showdown that was less of a game and more of a batting practice session. The Eagles (5-7) will look to keep their offensive fireworks going against the struggling Federal Hocking Lancers next, while Portsmouth (5-10) hopes to regroup before facing the winless Fairland Dragons in their upcoming matchup.
