Meigs County • April 18, 2025
Good morning, Meigs County. From campus studios to real-world newsrooms, Sullivan Beach is riding the wave of journalism success at Ohio University. The soon-to-graduate Painesville native has anchored his way through three years at WOUB, building an impressive resume that perfectly positions him for his aptly-named dream: broadcasting from a coastal station where he can finally learn to surf. His advice to incoming freshmen resonates beyond the newsroom: "be bold and never give up."
In stark contrast to Beach's bright future, a major drug trafficking operation was dismantled this week when deputies arrested Sean Braley with approximately one pound of methamphetamine during a US-33 traffic stop. Meanwhile, Belpre High School's Interact Club is planting seeds of hope with their 10-foot "Peace Pole" installation planned for Earth Day 2025. The student-decorated monument, featuring handprints and messages of peace, represents the next generation's commitment to the Rotary principle of "Service Above Self."

📺 Ohio student Sullivan Beach anchors his way to graduation success. The journalism major from Painesville is set to graduate from Ohio University this May after three years at WOUB. Beach gained valuable experience working on multiple shows including NewsWatch, where he served as an anchor and multimedia journalist. His post-graduation dream perfectly matches his surname – working as a news anchor at a coastal station where he can finally learn to surf. Beach advises incoming freshmen to "be bold and never give up" while staying true to their aspirations.
🚨 Major drug bust ends six-month investigation in Meigs County. Deputies arrested Sean Braley after finding about one pound of methamphetamine during a traffic stop on US-33 as he returned from Columbus. A second suspect, Kristine Shane, was arrested following a search warrant execution at a Pomeroy residence where more drugs, pills, scales, and firearms were discovered. Both suspects face multiple drug-related charges including trafficking and possession. Sheriff Scott Fitch called the arrests "a win for Meigs County residents" and promised more action to combat drug trafficking in the community.
🕊️ Belpre students plant peace in their community on Earth Day. The Belpre High School Interact Club will install a 10-foot "Peace Pole" in Civitan Park on April 22, 2025. Decorated with student handprints and messages of peace, the pole represents the club's commitment to community service and the Rotary Club's peacekeeping mission. The project is funded by the Rotary Club of Belpre, which provides support and guidance to the 12-member student organization. Rotary President Jeff Totten envisions similar poles appearing throughout Belpre in the future, spreading the message of "Service Above Self."

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
