Meigs County • April 7, 2025
Good morning, Meigs County. The Mid-Ohio Valley finds itself locked in a soggy standoff with Mother Nature as relentless rainfall transforms familiar waterways into potential threats. With 2-2.5 inches already fallen and another 1-3 inches on the horizon, local officials are keeping watchful eyes on the Ohio and Muskingum rivers while several roads have already surrendered to rising waters. Emergency management's message is clear: this isn't the time for waterfront adventures.
On brighter shores, Wood County is making environmental responsibility more convenient with free collection events throughout 2025, offering residents multiple opportunities to responsibly part ways with hard-to-dispose items from paint to appliances. Meanwhile, Belpre's business community celebrated a milestone as financial advisers J.C. Rutter and Steve Highland cut the ribbon on their new Edward Jones office, bringing over four decades of combined investment expertise to Washington Boulevard with the blessing of local officials and chamber representatives.

🌧️ Relentless rain threatens Mid-Ohio Valley with rising waters. Local officials are monitoring potential flooding as streams and creeks overflow from 2-2.5 inches of rainfall, with another 1-3 inches expected in coming days. The Ohio River is projected to crest below flood stage early next week, while the Muskingum River at Beverly approaches flood stage and is predicted to crest Sunday evening. Several counties across Ohio and West Virginia remain under flood warnings, with authorities reporting water covering low-lying roads including Core Road, Nicholette Road, and Stillwell Road. Emergency management officials urge residents to be cautious around flood-prone areas as conditions may worsen.
♻️ Wood County tackles hard-to-dispose waste with free collection events. The Wood County Solid Waste Authority has scheduled multiple collection events throughout 2025 to help residents responsibly dispose of items like paint, scrap metal, and appliances. Events will take place in Williamstown, Parkersburg, Mountwood Park, Belleville, and Waverly from April through October, all running from 8 a.m. to noon. "We're reaching further across the county to make it easier for folks to get rid of hard-to-dispose items and help protect the environment," said Director Sarah Robinson. The authority also offers free litter control supplies and a Borrow-a-bin program for community events.
