Meigs County • February 10, 2025
Good morning, Meigs County. In a plot twist that feels straight out of a thriller movie, Parkersburg residents are still processing news of an alleged arson attempt that reads more like a scene from "Sleeping with the Enemy" than a small-town police report. While that story has everyone talking, there's a much brighter flame of hope burning at WVU Parkersburg, where a remarkable $150,000 donation from the Miller family is sowing seeds of change for the next generation of farmers.
Meanwhile, in the pool, John Marshall's girls swim team is making the kind of waves that break records, not just win meets. Their freestyle relay team didn't just beat the school record - they shattered it with a performance that has everyone wondering what they'll do at states. Between blazing fast times and blazing buildings, it's been quite a week in our corner of Appalachia.

🌾 Local farmers donate $150,000 to revolutionize agricultural education in West Virginia. The generous gift from Mike and Brenda Miller will expand Riverhawk Farms, WVU Parkersburg's hands-on agricultural learning facility. The donation aims to enhance the livestock program, allowing students to work with cattle, chickens, goats, and pigs. The Millers, who own a 300-acre farm themselves, believe hands-on experience with animals is crucial for attracting young people to agricultural careers. This investment will help break down financial barriers for students while securing the future of farming in the region.
🏊♀️ John Marshall girls make waves, clinch Region 1 swim championship. The Monarchs dominated with 101.5 points at Brooke High School's regional meet, outpacing Morgantown and Parkersburg.
