Meigs County • February 7, 2025
Good morning, Meigs County. As winter tightens its grip on Southeast Ohio, there's a powerful wave of warmth headed our way. Ohio University's upcoming Black History Month celebration isn't just another academic event - it's a vibrant tapestry of community voices, local artists, and compelling history coming together to illuminate the often-overlooked story of Black labor in America. With Dr. Uzoma D. Miller at the helm and the Ross County NAACP joining forces, February 20th promises to be an evening that both educates and inspires.
While that cultural conversation unfolds in Chillicothe, Athens is taking meaningful steps toward a more inclusive community with three crucial disability commission meetings this month. And over in Wood County, officials are learning that sometimes the best game plans need a replay - as the stadium renovation project heads back to the drawing board, proving that good things come to those who recalculate.

ποΈ School board rejects all bids for stadium renovation, sending plans back to drawing board. The Wood County Board of Education declined three contractor bids ranging from $5.4 to $7.2 million for Parkersburg High School's Stadium Field project, far exceeding the $2 million budget. Assistant Superintendent Kaleb Lawrence cited COVID-19 and inflation as major factors driving up material costs. Officials are now working with architects to redesign the project within budget constraints. The district aims to complete the renovations before the next school year begins.
