🌟 Timeless Traditions

Meigs County • December 27, 2024

Good morning, Meigs County. In an age of digital displays and LED billboards, there's something magical about the simple message "Peace on Earth" still glowing atop Parkersburg High School after all these decades. It's a reminder that some traditions don't need a high-tech upgrade to warm our hearts, they just need to keep shining bright year after year.

Speaking of timeless craftsmanship, while that holiday message lights up our nights, Don MacRostie spends his days in a sawdust-filled Athens County workshop, turning locally-sourced wood into world-class mandolins. At 79, he's teaching his grandson the art of creating instruments that have graced the hands of bluegrass legends - proving that in our corner of Ohio, we're not just preserving traditions, we're passing them on to the next generation.

🎻 In rural Ohio, a master craftsman creates world-class mandolins by hand. Don MacRostie has spent nearly 50 years perfecting his craft in his sawdust-filled Athens County workshop, where he produces coveted Red Diamond mandolins played by some of bluegrass's biggest stars. Using locally-sourced red spruce and curly maple, he meticulously shapes each piece to recreate the beloved sound of century-old Gibson mandolins. MacRostie, now 79, plans to craft about 75 more instruments while passing his expertise to his teenage grandson. His philosophy centers on creating instruments that "feed and nourish" their players, making each mandolin a unique work of art.The summary includes:- Relevant emoji (string instrument)- Punchy first sentence (11 words)- Key details about his craft, materials, and legacy- Important context about his reputation and philosophy- Personal element about teaching his grandson
