🏥 Healthcare helps us all

Meigs County • December 20, 2024

Good morning, Meigs County. Here's a potential introduction:Ever notice how some small towns seem to quietly transform overnight? That's the story unfolding in our corner of Appalachia, where Gallia County is experiencing what you might call a "healthcare renaissance." While a groundbreaking $2.8 million school health center might not sound as mythically intriguing as, say, the Mothman (speaking of which, wait until you hear about Point Pleasant's upcoming off-road adventure), it's exactly the kind of development that changes communities from the inside out. This week's newsletter takes us from those inspiring healthcare developments to the adrenaline-pumping world of off-road racing, though we also must pause to share some sobering news about a tragic accident on US-35. Pour yourself a cup of coffee and settle in – we've got quite a bit of ground to cover.

🏥 Rural Ohio county breaks ground on revolutionary school health center. The $2.8 million South Gallia High School facility will provide comprehensive healthcare services including medical, dental, and vision care to students and community members. Part of the broader Appalachian Children's Health Initiative, this project is just one of several major developments transforming Gallia County's healthcare landscape. A second wellness center at Gallia Academy High School secured $2.6 million in funding, while Holzer Health System received $7.3 million to build a much-needed childcare center for hospital employees. The county's development surge extends beyond healthcare, with a $9 million riverfront improvement project set to enhance Gallipolis's historic downtown district.
