Marion County • September 5, 2025
Good morning, Marion County. Fall colors are arriving in Ohio, and so are the mums at Kingston Residence's fundraiser this week. These $11 blooms do double duty – brightening your porch while supporting the Walk to End Alzheimer's on September 27. It's a perfect example of how small purchases can contribute to tackling big challenges, with all proceeds going toward research and support for a disease that touches countless families in our community.
Meanwhile, as one support system winds down, another steps into the spotlight. Franklin County's Emergency Rental Assistance program will close its doors September 30 after distributing $132 million to 38,000 households during the pandemic. In lighter news, actor Domhnall Gleeson brings Ohio journalism to streaming screens in "The Paper," a new mockumentary set in the same universe as "The Office." The Irish actor even visited OSU to prepare for his role as a struggling newspaper editor.

🏠 Franklin County's rental lifeline dries up after helping 38,000 households. The Emergency Rental Assistance program, which provided $132 million in housing support during the COVID era, will end September 30 as funding expires. IMPACT Community Action CEO Robert Chilton confirmed they're processing existing applications but no longer accepting new ones. The program's conclusion comes at a challenging time for Columbus residents facing rising rents in a growing city with insufficient housing supply. While rental assistance ends, IMPACT will continue offering other services including utility assistance, weatherization, and employment programs.
