Marion County • August 27, 2025
Good morning, Marion County. September brings more than just the first hints of fall—it's also bringing a chance to support a worthy cause while brightening your garden. Kingston of Marion's annual mum sale on September 11-12 offers locally grown blooms at $11 each, with proceeds supporting the upcoming Alzheimer's Walk. The facility's specialized memory care unit represents a compassionate approach to aging that many families find reassuring during challenging transitions.
Transitions of a different kind mark our other headlines today. Former OSU President Gordon Gee makes a surprising return to campus in a consulting role, bringing his characteristic bow tie and decades of experience back to Columbus. Meanwhile, the community prepares to celebrate the rich legacy of Abraham Miller, whose craftsmanship and devotion to family left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know the man who could "do, fix, or craft anything."

🌸 Local care facility sells mums to support Alzheimer's Walk. Kingston of Marion will host its annual fundraiser on September 11-12, offering 8-inch locally grown mums for $11 each. All proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer's Walk scheduled for September 27, according to Community Relations Director Bob Goyer. The facility features a specialized memory care unit designed specifically for individuals with memory loss, offering personalized care with dedicated staff. Goyer encourages families to consider Kingston's "aging in place" approach, which provides seamless transitions from independent living to memory care as needed.
🕊️ Abraham Miller's legacy lives on through the lives he touched. The 86-year-old Plain City resident, known for his craftsmanship and family devotion, passed away on August 23, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. After serving in the Air Force and working 30+ years as a respected tool and die maker at Ranco Controls, Miller enjoyed retirement pursuing woodworking, sports, and spending winters in Florida. An avid outdoorsman who could "do, fix, or craft anything," he was beloved as the "fun uncle" who created memorable experiences for family gatherings. His daughters will host a celebration of his life on September 14th at the Marysville Moose Lodge.
🎓 Gordon Gee returns to Ohio State in consulting role. The former university president will serve as a resource for leadership after being offered a position by President Walter "Ted" Carter Jr. Gee, who previously led OSU from 1990-98 and 2007-13, will report to Executive Vice President Ravi Bellamkonda in this one-year arrangement that won't exceed $150,000. His return comes despite past controversies, including inappropriate comments about Catholics and his recent departure from West Virginia University following a faculty vote of no confidence. Gee will also hold residencies with several university colleges during his return to what he has called his "home."
