Good morning, Marion County. Summer's scorching arrival has Ohio officials sounding the alarm with their #BeatTheHeatOhio campaign—a timely reminder that those triple-digit temperatures aren't just uncomfortable, they can be dangerous. As thermometers climb, remember to check on elderly neighbors, keep pets cool, and perhaps explore one of the county's air-conditioned community centers if your home feels like a sauna.

Campus life continues evolving as Ohio State commits $10 million to transform three North Campus residence halls, creating more gathering spaces while updating outdated systems in a project spanning through 2030. Meanwhile, former surgeon Bill Schirmer has traded his scalpel for a brew kettle at Bridge's End Brewing Co., Marion County's newest craft destination. The spacious 9,000-square-foot venue in Shawnee Hills offers everything from draft beers to upscale dining, proving that pandemic-inspired hobbies can sometimes ferment into full-fledged community treasures.

🏢 Three North Campus towers getting $10 million makeover. Drackett, Jones, and Taylor residence halls will undergo renovations beginning this month as part of Ohio State's Core North plan. The project aims to create more gathering spaces, increase square footage per bed, and replace outdated plumbing and heating systems. Construction is scheduled to be completed by 2030, with some buildings potentially offline for full academic years during renovations. The broader Core North initiative also includes plans to upgrade classrooms and labs across North Campus to enhance student success.

🌡️ Ohio warns extreme heat can turn deadly during summer months. The Ohio Emergency Management Agency is promoting their #BeatTheHeatOhio campaign to help residents prepare for dangerous temperatures. People most at risk include older adults, children, those without air conditioning, and outdoor workers. Authorities recommend staying hydrated with water, checking on vulnerable neighbors, dressing in loose clothing, and utilizing community cooling centers. Pet owners should ensure animals have access to shade and fresh water while never leaving them in unattended vehicles.
