Diverse volunteers—including residents, those on probation, and individuals in addiction recovery—worked together to clear trash, yard waste, and scrap metal from multiple properties. City Sanitation Supervisor Greg Mayse praised the crew as "one of best groups of volunteers" as they removed everything from car parts to old fences. This effort continues the city's commitment to neighborhood beautification, which included collecting over 3,000 tires in 2024.
🎓 Ninety seniors toss caps as Pleasant High celebrates milestone moment. Valedictorian Kylie Klaiber reminded graduates that high school completion marks just the beginning of their journey. The emotional ceremony on May 23 featured Principal Steven Ringer choking up while telling students "I'm proud of you." Many seniors showcased their creativity with decorated graduation caps, while others joined the choir for a final performance of "I Am Still Your Dreamer." The Class of 2025 celebrated their achievement surrounded by family, friends, and school administrators.
🛍️ Downtown Marion welcomes artisan hub for local crafters. Under The Willow Tree opened in early May, hosting more than a dozen vendors selling handcrafted items and collectibles. Owner Amy Hayes manages the store while working two other jobs, offering her own baked goods alongside various vendor products. The marketplace features diverse creators including Teresa Schrote with 3D printed signs and Kelsey Kincaid who specializes in resin-based crafts. This new retail space adds to downtown Marion's shopping landscape with its unique selection of locally-made treasures.
