Good morning, Marion County. Wild turkey hunting season is in full swing across Ohio, with hunters already bagging an impressive 14,355 birds statewide. Belmont County leads the tally with 425 turkeys harvested, while the season continues through mid-May in southern counties and into June for the northeast zoneβ€”plenty of time for local hunters to claim their limit of one bearded turkey each.

Meanwhile, achievement takes flight in our community as McClain FFA members earn top honors at the Ohio State Convention. Brenna Wright claimed first place with her fruit and nut proficiency project, while Maguire Ross and Reese Roble secured gold with their Environmental Systems Science Fair Project. All three talented students are now advancing to national competition, showcasing the exceptional agricultural education happening right here in our region.

πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ Trans student's activism project banned by school administrators. Dublin Jerome High School senior Corinne Embi was barred from presenting her women's studies final project on combating transphobia. Administrators initially approved her flyers for a demonstration and teach-in, but later removed them and prohibited her from proceeding, allegedly calling trans people "a controversial topic." Embi has moved her teach-in to a local library and believes the school's decision reflects systemic transphobia rather than individual prejudice. The incident occurs amid new Ohio legislation restricting transgender students' bathroom access and what Embi describes as an increasingly right-leaning school environment.
