🌀 Pinwheels of hope

Marion County • April 18, 2025

Good morning, Marion County. In a remarkable testament to the power of organ donation, those colorful pinwheels spinning outside Marion General Hospital this week aren't just decorations—they represent lives saved and healing made possible. Each pinwheel in the memorial garden tells a story of generosity, with the hospital supporting 24 organ and 87 tissue donors over the past decade. A single donor can save up to eight lives and heal 75 others—a statistic that brings new meaning to the term "leaving a legacy."

Meanwhile, Marion County is focusing on safety across multiple fronts. A free workshop on May 13 will equip people with developmental disabilities with crucial situational awareness skills, from recognizing potential dangers to enhancing online protection. In less positive safety news, police responded to a dangerous confrontation Sunday when a suspect allegedly fired at officers, resulting in an officer-involved shooting that's now under investigation. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.

The Fighting Hornets, who fell to 1-4, might want to consider a name change to the "Searching-for-Offense Hornets" after being blanked in Wednesday's league challenge.
