🚨 Cancer screening alert

Marion County • April 4, 2025

Good morning, Marion County. A startling health trend is emerging across America: colorectal cancer rates are rising among adults under 50, making it the deadliest cancer for young men. The good news? OhioHealth is stepping up locally with new screening options every Monday and Friday at their Delaware Avenue campus—potentially life-saving appointments that can catch issues before they become dangerous for residents 45 and older.

Meanwhile, summer plans are taking shape for young golf enthusiasts as the Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association launches its 39th season. Starting June 3, players ages 9-18 from seven central Ohio counties will compete across multiple tournaments, with older participants eligible for scholarships. The season features everything from a June 5 golf camp to a final July banquet where an impressive 18 scholarships will be awarded—giving these young athletes something to swing for beyond just bragging rights.

🔍 Colorectal cancer screenings now available weekly in Marion, Ohio. OhioHealth has begun offering these potentially life-saving screenings on Mondays and Fridays at their Delaware Avenue campus. The initiative comes as colorectal cancer rates are rising alarmingly among adults under 50, with young adults being the only population group experiencing an increase. It's currently the deadliest cancer for young men and second deadliest for young women, making early detection crucial. Dr. Akeek Bhatt emphasizes that routine screenings can catch precancerous polyps before they become dangerous, and patients 45 and older can schedule appointments directly.
