Good morning, Licking County. As Memorial Day approaches, the story of Emmett Paul Luther—a 15-year-old Jacksontown native who enlisted in the Marines during WWII—reminds us of the profound sacrifice behind the holiday. The young soldier, who fought valiantly in the Pacific Theater before being wounded in Guam, represents countless heroes whose memories we honor this weekend, even as thousands gather for a sweeter tradition at Utica's 48th annual Ice Cream Festival.

Meanwhile, the Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County continues transforming lives through real-world skills that matter. Superintendent Michelle Snow, celebrating 373 recent graduates, emphasizes that career tech education isn't merely about employment—it's about empowerment. With plans to strengthen business partnerships and enhance adult education options, C-TEC combines pride in its impactful history with a vision for an evolving future that helps students build the lives they want.

🇺🇸 A Marine's story reminds us why Memorial Day matters. Emmett Paul Luther, born in Jacksontown in 1926, enlisted in the Marines at just 15 years old during World War II. After serving in multiple Pacific Theater battles and receiving the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the young soldier was wounded in Guam in July 1944. His status changed from "missing in action" to "presumptive death" in August 1945, with his remains never recovered. His name lives on through the Department of Defense's POW/MIA Accounting Agency and a headstone his mother erected at Wilson Cemetery in 1961.
