Good morning, Licking County. The next generation of environmental stewards is taking root in Granville, where fifth-grade students celebrated Arbor Day by planting an Autumn Blaze maple and showcasing their artistic talents. While these young conservationists marked Granville's impressive 34-year streak as a Tree City USA, another type of preservation story is coming to Bexley Public Library, where author Michelle Young will reveal the extraordinary tale of Rose Valland, the art spy who outsmarted Nazis to save countless masterpieces during World War II.
Columbus' skyline continues its upward trajectory with approval for a new 161-foot mixed-use building at West Broad and Belle Streets. Though scaled back from the originally proposed 34-story tower, the structure will still deliver what many urban dwellers crave: 249 apartments, a grocery store with cart-friendly elevators, and abundant parking. The development marks another piece falling into place for The Peninsula project reshaping the downtown landscape.

🌳 Granville students planted trees and created art for Arbor Day. The fifth-graders at Granville Intermediate School participated in a special assembly on April 25 featuring a tree planting ceremony, educational presentations, and a poster contest. Students learned about Arbor Day's 150-year history and Granville's 34 consecutive years as a Tree City USA. An Autumn Blaze maple was planted in front of the school, with costs donated by American Electric Power. The poster contest winners, who illustrated the theme "Trees are Terrific... in All Shapes and Sizes," received Whit's gift cards and T-shirts for their creative artwork.
📚 World War II art hero gets spotlight at Bexley library. Author Michelle Young will discuss her new book, "The Art Spy," about Rose Valland, who infiltrated Nazi leadership to save Western art treasures. The free event on May 29 will feature Young in conversation with Columbus Museum of Art's executive director emerita Nannette Maciejunes. Held at Bexley Public Library, the talk requires registration, and copies of the book will be available for purchase.
