Good morning, Jackson County. A somber Fourth of July marked the passing of a true community pillar as Commissioner Cathy "Nana" Coleman lost her courageous battle following injuries sustained in a May car crash. Her legacy extends far beyond her political career—from buying prom dresses for students in need to supporting struggling local businesses, her countless acts of kindness touched lives throughout Scioto County, prompting Governor DeWine to order flags lowered in her honor.

On a brighter note, summer festivities are in full swing across the region. The Gallia County Fair kicks off July 28 with a week packed with everything from livestock shows to performances by country star Phil Vassar and "The Voice" winners A Girl Named Tom. Not to be outdone, Parkersburg's Homecoming Festival returns August 15-17 with comedian Cledus T. Judd, bluegrass celebrations, and quirky crowd-pleasers like Dachshund races and wrestling events.

💔 Beloved Commissioner Cathy Coleman dies after long battle with injuries. The Scioto County official, known affectionately as "Nana," passed away on July 4 following complications from a May 1 car crash that initially killed her dog Packer. Before her political career, Coleman worked alongside her late husband at Boone Coleman Construction and served on the local school board. She was remembered for countless acts of kindness—from buying prom dresses for students to helping struggling businesses—and for her commitment to fiscal responsibility and children's services. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine ordered flags flown at half-staff in her honor until her funeral.
