Good morning, Jackson County. Behind every scholarship award lies a community's belief in its future. The Jefferson Alumni Association demonstrated this commitment by distributing $11,000 to eleven promising graduates—part of a remarkable tradition that has supported 188 students since 2003. These investments in young talent span diverse career paths from welding to healthcare, creating ripples of opportunity that will return to strengthen our community for generations to come.
Among these bright minds is Paige Best, a Dawson-Bryant senior whose acceptance into Ohio University's political science pre-law program marks the beginning of her journey toward becoming a civil rights attorney. Her grandmother's wisdom to "live authentically" guides her impressive involvement in everything from National Honor Society to prevention initiatives. Meanwhile, our community mourns the loss of 18-year-old Jeremy Heiss, whose life ended tragically Friday night in a single-vehicle accident—a somber reminder of life's fragility amid our celebrations of youth and potential.
