Good morning, Holmes County. When lithium batteries ignite, chaos follows—as one Walnut Creek family discovered Saturday when their e-bike battery sparked a shop fire that sent horses, cows, and sheep scrambling to safety in nearby fields. The East Holmes Fire & EMS response highlights growing safety concerns around these increasingly common power sources that can turn from convenient to catastrophic in moments.
Change is reshaping familiar landmarks across our region this season. Sheetz devotees in North Canton will notice their Pittsburg Avenue pit stop has temporarily vanished, making way for an ambitious rebuild featuring self-checkout, a drive-thru, and car wash by September. Meanwhile, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has taken legal action against six car dealerships—including Canton's Automax—for leaving customers in limbo without vehicle titles, a violation that's already cost the state's title defect fund over $312,000 in consumer compensation.

🏪 Sheetz vanishes from North Canton corner, but only temporarily. The convenience store on Pittsburg Avenue closed on April 13 for a complete rebuild that will last until September. The renovation will bring an enhanced restaurant-style experience with self-service kiosks, Made-To-Order points, and self-checkout stations. According to Sheetz officials, the rebuilt store will feature a drive-thru and car wash, while North Canton Mayor Stephan Wilder noted the upgrade aligns with the company's periodic design refreshes. Employees have been relocated to other nearby Sheetz locations during the construction.
🚗 Six Ohio car dealerships sued for failing to provide vehicle titles. The lawsuit, brought by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, includes Automax of Canton whose operator is currently in prison on weapons charges. The dealerships violated Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act and Certificate of Motor Vehicles Act, leaving buyers without proper documentation. The state's Consumer Protection Section issued over $312,000 from a title defect fund to compensate affected customers. Automax of Canton alone accounted for $46,055 of the payouts to consumers who didn't receive titles within 40 days of purchase.
