Good morning, Hocking County. The power and history of trains took center stage this week with dramatically different stories unfolding on local tracks. A sobering collision in Ross County sent a truck driver to the hospital with serious injuries after their vehicle was struck by a Norfolk Southern train carrying 88 containers. The Friday morning incident suspended train operations for five hours while crews worked to clear the scene and repair tracksβ€”a stark reminder of the immense forces at play when railways and roadways intersect.

On a brighter note, the historic Hocking Valley Scenic Railway continues to delight families with journeys through time on tracks dating back to the 1860s. Vintage cars transport passengers past brick kilns and canal locks, while special events like the new Fireworks Express create lasting memories. Meanwhile, Perry County Health Department begins its phased relocation to new facilities, with various departments transitioning to different locations through summer 2025.
