Good morning, Hocking County. After decades of waiting, a Vietnam veteran is finally receiving the recognition he deserves. John Foster's military records mysteriously omitted his service during Operation Frequent Wind—once dismissed as "a presidential mistake"—but thanks to persistent advocacy, his medals are now in hand. His story reminds us that sometimes justice arrives late, but it still matters tremendously when it does.

Meanwhile, leadership transitions and inclusive theater are bringing positive changes to our community. Caley Boyden steps into a new role at Perry County DD Board as longtime leader David Couch prepares for retirement, while ABC Players opens "F Is for Friends" at Stuart's Opera House this Saturday. The sensory-friendly production features choreographed songs about friendship and accommodations that make theater accessible for everyone—a beautiful reminder that the arts truly can be for all.

🎖️ Vietnam veteran finally receives medals denied for decades. John Foster of Crooksville was wrongly denied recognition for his service in Vietnam when his military records omitted this crucial period. The Perry County Veterans Services Commission successfully fought to correct his records, securing him several awards including a Vietnam service medal. Foster explained he was originally told his participation in Operation Frequent Wind was "a presidential mistake" that should be kept quiet. Now properly recognized, Foster hopes thousands of other veterans in similar situations will come forward to receive the acknowledgment they deserve.

🎭 Sensory-friendly theater makes space for all to be themselves. ABC Players' production "F Is for Friends" opens Saturday at Stuart's Opera House, featuring choreographed songs about friendship and a Winnie the Pooh-inspired play. The show uses regular lighting instead of bright theater lights, replaces loud sounds with gentle instrumentation, and offers flexible seating to accommodate sensory sensitivities. Creator Celeste Parsons designed the production to help neurodivergent audience members engage with live theater without fear of judgment. While tailored for those with sensory sensitivities, the free performances at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. welcome all community members.
