Good morning, Geauga County. Leadership transitions are reshaping Solon's emergency services landscape as Fire Chief Shawn Toth and Police Chief Courtenay Perkins take the helm with a combined 36 years of local experience. Both homegrown leaders share remarkably parallel visions—prioritizing enhanced training, wellness initiatives, and technological advancement while maintaining the community's stellar safety record that residents have come to expect.

The legacy of local heroes extends beyond the living in Chester Township, where the post office now bears the name of Marine Sgt. Wolfgang Kyle Weninger, honoring his ultimate sacrifice following a 2020 training accident. Meanwhile, northeast Ohio's social scene gets a sophisticated boost this November with NightJar's arrival in Woodmere—a 60-seat cocktail destination promising vintage libations, absinthe service, weekend jazz performances, and even a dedicated cigar night that adds a touch of old-world charm to our modern suburban landscape.

🇺🇸 A fallen Marine's legacy now lives on at his hometown post office. Chester Township Post Office was officially renamed to honor Sgt. Wolfgang Kyle Weninger during a plaque dedication ceremony on August 29. Weninger, a Geauga County native, died during a training accident in 2020. Congressman David Joyce, who introduced the legislation in 2023, emphasized that Weninger "made the ultimate sacrifice for his country" and deserved to be honored in the community where he grew up. The legislation to rename the Chillicothe Road building passed both the House and Senate in 2024.

🍸 Cleveland's nightlife scene gets a sultry new cocktail destination. NightJar, a 60-seat venue with "old-world charm," will open in Woodmere's upscale Eton Chagrin Boulevard shopping center this November. Created by local entrepreneurs Sam Friedman and Michael Paley, the bar will feature vintage and original cocktails, absinthe service, and a unique tinned fish menu. Weekend jazz performances will showcase local musicians, while a special Wednesday cigar night on the patio adds another distinctive element. The name "NightJar" was chosen to evoke the stealthy, sultry bird that quietly sings in gathering places.
